Not quite the same record-setting digits for The Haves And The Have Nots, but, compared to other OWN shows, a strong start - enough to make it the second highest-rated series debut in the network's history.

As I said yesterday, let's see if both new shows have legs.

Details on Love Thy Neighbor's figures via press release from OWN below:

Tuesday's Record-setting Premiere of Perry's Drama "The Haves and the Have Nots" Ranks in Top 10 Cable Telecasts for All Women

OWN is Tuesday Night's #1 Cable Network in All of Television for African-American Women 25-54

OWN is a Top 10 Cable Network Across All Key Demos on Tuesday Night

Los Angeles - OWN premiered its second night of original programming from Tyler Perry on Wednesday, May 29 with two back-to-back half hour episodes of the sitcom "Love Thy Neighbor" 9-10 p.m. Continuing OWN's solid ratings momentum, 1.65 million total viewers watched the premiere at 9 p.m. (1.4 W25-54) making it the second highest rated series debut in network history across all key measures (second only to Tuesday night's premiere of Perry's drama "The Haves and the Have Nots"). The second episode of "Love Thy Neighbor" at 9:30 p.m. built to 1.8 million viewers, growing +8% in the network's key demo W25-54 and +9% in total viewers.

In addition, with competitive data in today from Nielsen, Tuesday night's two-episode premiere of "The Haves and the Have Nots" (9-11 p.m.) ranked among the night's Top 10 cable telecasts for all women and was the night's top two non-sports telecasts in all of television across all key African-American demos (overall #1 AA W25-54, #2 AA W18-49, households and total viewers.) OWN also ranked as a Top 10 cable network across all key demos on Tuesday night and the #1 network in all of television for African-American W25-54 (6.71) finishing +19% ahead of second place. The series was OWN's highest rated premiere in network history with 1.77 million viewers tuning in to the premiere at 9 p.m. and building to 1.8 million viewers at 10 p.m. (Competitive data for "Love Thy Neighbor" will be available tomorrow).

Let me start off by saying I love, love, love, love Tyler Perry and I will buy anything he sell and go to any movie he produces and even though I cannot stand LOVE THY NEIGHBOR I will still turn my tv on so that he will get the ratings. I have to say I loved Floyd on House Of Payne after the Barber Shop episodes because I think he and Curtis has great chemistry together but I don't really care for him on Love Thy Neighbor, but I have to say if not for he and Hattie the show would be a real bust. I think that it's very unfortunated that Hattie doesn't have better actors to enhance her talent because she really is funny. I love when she and Madea gets together. OMG. I be cracking up.. The four young adults on the show, they simply cannot act. Hattie's grandson and his roommate is Horrible. The white guy(the roommate) makes me feel like he is trying to be goofy like Jim Carey and its not working. I hate when they come on. The young black girl she seems sweet but maybe she needs a better acting role. hey I'm only one person and Praise God my opinion won't make or break Tyler. So with that being said. I LOVE YOU TYLER PERRY.

I like the show and all but they need to stop standing around so much. It makes everyone seem unnatural. Someone need to sit down while others stand up...everyone is facing the camera and it makes the show look like tyler perry's live shows.

The cast is all ok except Darmirra...her acting is too dramatic and she seems slow.

For Directv owners-please check your accounts-it seems OWN has been removed from certain packages without any advance notice. So yes expect the ratings for all of OWN shows to drop as folks have lost access to them.

Maybe you should inform OWN about this, they will need to know what's happening.

I was a little bored with it, a couple of the characters were over doing it to the point it was not funny. I will watch again, and determine whether I will watch again. I do Love!!! The Haves and the Have Nots!

I have to admit. I chuckled a few times watching both episodes. Not bad. Much better than the first episode of House of Payne. It felt like a real sitcom. I hope it gets better.

Other than Peeples this has been a great year for TP. Temptation made 52 million. Two hit sitcoms. For Better or worse is will be a hit for TBS as it was last year.

Did art imitate life? (Sweetie Pie's)

  • louie | August 13, 2013 10:23 AM

exactly ghost...i do not like the director so much b/c they need to reposition the cast and not have everyone so close to each other. it seems staged as oppose to other sitcoms where there is more movement

@Ghost The grandmother is Tyler's star. He's wanted to give her a tv show for a while now. She is a clown. LITERALLY a clown from UniverSOUL Circus that made a transition into stage plays. Trust me, they've toned her down a lot already.

  • Ghost | May 30, 2013 8:12 PM

Do not insult Sweetie Pie's with that comparison. That first episode was offensive! The grandmother ruins the show for me. It was a turnoff to see her encourage her daughter to stay with a cheating man because she doesn't want her to move back home.

Now the second episode was slightly better. Hopefully Tyler gets a better writing staff for this show and tone down the grandmother.

If he does what he did for his very first sitcom, House of Payne, and hire GOOD writers/directors, then I see it doing much better. I remember the first few episodes of House of Payne were HORRIBLE, but it turned out well after some major tweaks. Tyler needs to learn to how to DELEGATE. He's doing too much and it's hurting his productions.
