Lynn Whitfield, Morris Chestnut Headline 2012 African Movie Academy Awards This Weekend

This Sunday, April 22, Lagos, Nigeria  hosts the eighth Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), at the Expo Centre, Eko Hotel & Suites. Actors Lynn Whitfield, Morris Chestnut, Rockmond Dunbar and Maya Gilbert will appear for the ceremony, which honors films in 26 categories from 53 African countries.

As previously announced, nominated films of note include Better Mus' Come (Best Diaspora Feature), Mwansa The Great (Best Short Film), Kinyarwanda (Best Diaspora Feature), Toussaint Louverture (Best Diaspora Feature), An African Election (Best Documentary), and How to Steal 2 Million in various categories.

AMAA, whose theme this year is "Africa Rising," strives to "project the African film industry to Africa and the rest of the world." For more on the awards, visit ama-awards.com.

    I can't wait to see this on telly. Things are getting are getting better , with a diasporan guest list this will attract more people. So the african equivalent of the oscars doesn't get a single comment from our regular resident posters .Like really ? , this is a sad state of affairs. Tyler Perry , Spike and Veyola davis all gets 70+ comments even when they are not promoting a film. Poor black people .
