I am feeling incredibly honored, just got cast as MLK JR in the Lifetime movie "Betty and Corretta" playing opposite Angela Bassett as "Corretta"...I am determined to do his legacy proud!!! GOD IS GOOD!!!

Words from Malik Yoba, posted to his Facebook fan page.

Now we wait to find out what actor will play Malcolm X.

Recapping what we already know...

Angela BassettRuby Dee and Mary J. Blige are already signed up to star in the Lifetime original movie project previously titled Parallel Lives, but now has a working title, Betty And Coretta.

It's a project we've been tracking for about a year now, and it looks like it's finally heading into production.

The film will center on the relationship between Betty Shabazz and Coretta Scott King - specifically, it'll follow how they continue on as single mothers, after their husbands are assassinated - their husbands being Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr.

As already reported, Mary J. Blige will play Betty Shabazz, and Angela Bassett will play Coretta Scott King.

And now we know that Malik Yoba will play Martin Luther King, Jr.

Ruby Dee will appear on-screen as a "historical witness" to narrate the story, "as someone familiar with the events of both their lives."

Yves Simoneau, who recently directed a Beauty And The Beast TV-movie for ABC Studios, will direct Betty And Coretta, from a script penned by Shem Bitterman (he last wrote and directed a feature dramedy titled The Job in 2009).

The film will be produced by Blige, as well as Larry Stanitsky, with Jaja Johnson and Polly Anthony executive producing.

Production is set to begin this month; no word yet on when it'll air.

So, place your bets on who you think will be cast to play Malcolm X (assuming it hasn't already happened)?

So when the director is someone named Yves Simoneau, who recently directed a Beauty And The Beast TV-movie for ABC Studios, and the script is by that bard of black cinema (ahem) Shem Bitterman, we get casting like having the "I love fried chicken lady" playing Sister Shabazz and the dude from bad Tyler Perry movies and 21 Jump Street or whatever playing REV DR MARTIN LUTHER KING JR! I mean, c'mon people. Really?

I like the casting of Malik Yoba. As Jmac said, he was good in NY Undercover and in Why Did I Get Married. Can Mary J. Blige hold her own in a scene opposite Angela Bassett and not get burned up? I'm not sure.

It's a Lifetime TV Movie. Don't like it, don't watch it but don't expect something that would play in the theaters. I liked Malik Yoba in New York Undercover. I can see him playing MLK. He'll do a good job. If Mary J. seriously wants to be an actress she needs movies like this to practice in.

Great casting . MLK had sharp african features , Malik's a perfect choice.

Harry Lennix would be a perfect Malcolm X (I've always thought he was the actor Spike Lee should have tried to cast for the part, although Denzel did a great job).

I'm a fan of both him and Angela, can't wait to see it! and I think it was great casting!
