Principal photography for Lee Daniels' The Butler has begun in New Orleans, and with that news comes additional casting announcements we haven't mentioned yet, like Mariah Carey and Yaya DaCosta.

Although it's not public what roles each of these actresses will play in the film.

Carey, of course, last worked with Daniels in the award-winning drama Precious, in which she played a social worker.

Carey and DaCosta join an impressive ensemble roster of actors, including Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, David Oyelowo, John Cusack, Alan Rickman, Jane Fonda, Melissa Leo, Liev Schreiber, Jesse Williams and many more.

Music for the film will be composed by the legendary Quincy Jones - his first feature film score since 2005's Get Rich Or Die Tryin.

A Laura Ziskin Production, The Butler will be produced by Pamela Oas Williams, the late Laura Ziskin, Lee Daniels, and Cassian Elwes; executive produced by Hilary Shor and Adam Merims; and co-produced by David Jacobson.

The independently-financed film is being bankrolled by Follow Through Productions, Windy Hill Pictures, Salamander Media, Salloway Rubenstein Productions/Crystal City Entertainment, Earl W. Stafford, Starstream Films, Yogi Entertainment, and Inner Media Capital

As much as I like Whitaker, not even he can make me watch a Lee Daniel film. I will never watch any of his films after Precious.

I'm beginning to dislike this website. The constant complaining and bickering rattles my fucking soul. Its just a FUCKING MOVIE! Do people even enjoy movies anymore or are they trying to find knicks 'n knacks to bitch about. If you want things to change--start changing them! Become a director, producer, SCREENWRITER! Anything to satisfy your hunger/need to represent blacks on film. Coming from my generation---every year since 2001--blacks have been @ the Oscars either nominated or won. Not a big progression but progression non the less! Do ya'll not see what I see? It takes time. Time is all we have. Stop rushing shit. We will be represented better---its coming.

He needs to give Mo'nique a job. My patience with her movie career is thinning.

"Do people even enjoy movies anymore or are they trying to find knicks 'n knacks to bitch about."

It is surely the latter. No movie is good enough. Everything is beneath most of the people who comment on this site.

    Headline says "Quicky Jones".

What is with him and Mariah Carey??? Ugh...
Is he going to add Katey Perry to the cast? Oh of course not - roles for Whites are reserved for ACTUAL ACTORS, my bad...

  • Marie | July 26, 2012 10:48 AM

Agreed, Cherish. We've got a HUGE amount of genuine acting talent out there that understands and respects the CRAFT of acting. Performing in a music video does not make one an actor. But I was already lost with the casting of Oprah Winfrey.
