Starring the Emmy Award nominee and beloved Saturday Night Live veteran, NBC has scheduled The Maya Rudolph Show for next week Monday, May 19 (10 pm ET/PT).
Revisiting the classic variety show format, The Maya Rudolph Show will feature guest stars Craig Robinson, Andy Samberg, Kristen Bell, Fred Armisen, Chris Parnell, Sean Hayes, Diallo Riddle, Bashir Salahuddin, and others.
Grammy Award-nominated singer-songwriter Janelle Monae will serve as the musical guest. R&b singer-producer Raphael Saadiq will be the bandleader.
Rudolph was part of Saturday Night Live from 2000-11, performing in hundreds of sketches and earning an Emmy nomination in 2012 for guest actress in a comedy series.
It's currently unclear whether The Maya Rudolph Show will become a permanent series for the network, or just a single one-night special. It could also be acting as a test-run, and if a success, NBC just might upgrade it to a weekly franchise. So tune in in a few days, on the 19th and make it a hit (assuming you enjoy it).
NBC has released some EPK (electronic press kit) items ahead of next Monday's premiere, and I've embedded one key piece below - Rudolph herself talking about the show's genesis, her motivations for wanting to revisit the variety show format, what to expect, what she hopes audiences appreciate in it, and more.
Underneath the 6 1/2-minute video interview, you'll also find a longer promo for the show:
