Melvin Van Peebles

Famed director Melvin Van Peebles, who knows his share of controversy, decided to lend his support to the Occupy Wall Street Movement.  His 1971 song "Love That's America," from his first Hollywood film Watermelon Man, has been used with various OWS promotional videos circulating on the web now.  The latest one, below, is by Cypher Films.

His bad experience directing the film gave him determination to have complete control over his next production, the groundbreaking Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song.  The film was privately funded with his own money and, in part, by a $50,000 loan from Bill Cosby.  Van Peebles not only directed, scripted and edited the film, but wrote the score and directed the marketing campaign.  It ended of grossing more than $10 million and is considered one of the most successful black indie films of all time.

Now that's a Power to the people story!  [HT Okayplayer]

BUTT, because he was trying to be polite--STEVE missed the golden opportunity to seriously challenge this gathering of ETHONCENTRIC/RACIST fellow-filmmakers--AND, to call them out for what they actually and absolutely are...RACISTS!!! AND, STILL...he did not just come out and OUT all of the directors in the discussion as RACISTS, ETHNOCENTRIC RESISTANCE TO A PEACEFUL INCLUSION OF PEOPLE OF COLOR!!! THAT'S THE FACT GOD DAMN IT!!! IN ALL FACTS/HIS-story..."BIRTH OF A NATION," produced by a arch-racist JEWISH filmmaker, D. W. GRIFFITH, did in all facts give rise to what is today, the very ethnocentric film industry--that is now, TODAY, controlled/run by people who are JUST-LIKE-HIM! SAY IT AIN'T SO... AND, what better way to keep negatively affecting the psyche of so many people of color--THAN ALL the AMOS N' ANDYisms movies--OR, da showing that only white women in the big ole paw of a giant gorilla, are to it tastes-and, not a big chested, big butt black african woman or a hispanic! AND, WOULD SOMEONE, ADL-FEARLESSLY, PLEASE...tell me why there are so many Jewish women/men--and, not nearly as many gentiles, on the "Silver-Screens," of Hollywood, HISTORICALLY!? Here cum da ADL!!! For the record, Melvin did not release this and was not involved with it, it was put out by Cypher Productions and was made by an indie filmmaker. This is kinda a ripoff of this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IcC22nqKYQ which came out over two weeks ago and also uses the same Melvin Van Peebles song for Occupy Wall Street footage.
