The Foam of the Days, Michel Gondry's adaptation of the 1947 satirical fantasy novel Mood Indigo (L’Ecume des Jours), is set to start shooting April 10 in Paris.

As mentioned in a previous post, the cast includes Romain Duris (L'Auberge Espagnole) and Audrey Tautou (Amelie, Dirty Pretty Things) starring as Colin and Chloe, a wealthy couple that endure hardship when she falls ill with the strange ailment of "water lily in the lung."

As it turns out, much-lauded French actor/comedian Omar Sy (The Intouchables) will indeed co-star in the film as Colin's manservant Nicolas. Though Sy's role was unclear at the time of the casting announcement, apparently he replaces Jamel Debbouze, who was orginally set to play the role. So yes, we'll be seeing another black servant on screen after all.

Still, with the fantastical plot and combination of talent attached, I'm interested to see how the film turns out.

According to Screen Daily, other members of the cast are confirmed as Gad Emaleh, as Colin’s best friend Chick, opposite Aissa Maiga, as his long-suffering girlfriend Alise; Charlotte Lebon as Isis, a wealthy heiress who falls for Nicolas; Alain Chabat as Jules Gouffe, a reincarnation of a legendary French chef; Philippe Torreton as Jean Sol Partre, a play on real-life intellectual Jean-Paul Sartre; and Belgian actress Natacha Regnier, as the “the remedy seller.”

The Foam of the Days is co-produced by StudioCanal and Paris' Brio Films.
