The American Dream, the indie drama directed by and starring Jamil Walker Smith as an aspiring filmmaker-turned-marine, makes its way to Chicago theaters April 4 and 5.

We've written about the film before, most recently when it screened at New Voices in Black Cinema Festival in Brooklyn. The special screenings at Chicago's ICE theaters will be followed by discussions with local scholars, screenwriters and directors, moderated by program director Floyd Webb or Cecilia Horde.

Screening details are below, followed by a look at the film's trailer:

Wednesday, April 4th at 7pm, Adm. $5
ICE Theaters Lawndale
3330 W. Roosevelt Road, Chicago, IL 60624

Thursday, April 5th at 7pm, Adm. $5
ICE Theaters Chatham 14
210 W. 87th Street, Chicago, IL 60620
