It was announced today that Morgan Freeman will be this year’s recipient of the Renaissance Award, which is annually given by the Gene Siskel Film Center of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

He joins a select group of people that has included, in the past, Robert Downey Jr., Nicole Kidman, Jamie Foxx, George Lucas, and Gwyneth Paltrow.

The salute to Freeman and his career will take place on June 7th at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Chicago, and will offer a conversation with Freeman and likely another celebrity guest interviewer (as yet to be announced), about his favorite performances, his major influences and significant experiences in his life.

According to Jean de St. Aubin, the Executive Director of the Siskel Film Center: “Audiences have come to except that Mr. Freeman will deliver performances that are insightful, moving and always memorable.
