Morgan Freeman is on board to topline Rob Reiner's drama for Castle Rock Entertainment, Summer at Dog Dave's, along with Virgina Madsen.

The film is scheduled to start production in Greenwood Lake NY this July.

In the film, Freeman will play, according to the synopsis: "a wheelchair-bound author of Western novels whose alcoholism is making him lose his passion for writing. Madsen will play his new neighbor, a single mother going through a divorce who has three daughters. The family strikes up a relationship with the novelist and helps him rediscover his talent and find his passion for writing again."

Sort of sounds like the Magic Negro role in reverse, doesn't it?

Keenan Thompson, the unfunny black guy in Saturday Night Live - you know the one who makes you long for the good old days of Garrett Morris and Eddie Murphy - will play Freeman's nephew in the film.
