First announced as a possibility last fall, it's now official as NBC has given a pilot order to a new comedy series fromy The Office executive producer Greg Daniels, penned by Owen Ellickson (supervising producer for The Office), and starring funnyman/actor Craig Robinson.
The project, according to Deadline, will follow a talented musician (played by Robinson) with rough edges, who adjusts to his new life as a music teacher in a big-city middle school, where he encounters teacher politics and the temptations of single moms.
Robinson also has a connection to The Office as a member of its cast, since the first season.
No ETA yet, but, assuming NBC digs the pilot and orders to series, it could debut next season.
Robinson will be appearing in at least 3 feature films in 2013 - The End of the World, We The Peeples, and Rapturepalooza.
The lead role in a comedy series on a major network would obviously be a good look for him. But several hurdles still have to be jumped over before it actually becomes a series; scripts have to be written, a pilot has to be shot; the NBC has to love the pilot before orderin a season, etc...
