Finding The Funk

Celebrated author, filmmaker, producer, historian, critic, and more, Mr Nelson George (you know him!), is making a movie - one whose story I think you'll find mighty appealing, as I did, and would be encouraged to help see realized, as I will, once I complete this post.

Mr George has launched a Kickstarter campaign for a a documentary project titled Finding The Funk; and with a title like that, you can probably guess what the film's focus is - as Nelson himself states, a journey through the origins and influence of funk music, from James Brown to D'Angelo.

Among those to be featured in the film are: Sly Stone, Bootsy Collins, Mike D of the Beastie Boys, D'Angelo, Marcus Miller, Mtume, Nona Hendryx, Vernon Reid, Maceo Parker, Bernie Worrell, Steve Arrington, Reggie Hudlin, Sheila E, Shock G, and others.

Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson will assume host duties with a Vh1 broadcast debut next spring.

Cliff Charles, another name you'll recognize, will be the film's DP (he shot both Spike Lee Katrina documentaries), and internationally renowned producer Arthur Baker (who's worked with the likes of Bob Dylan, Al Green and Bruce Springsteen, amongst others) will executive produce.

But enough from me; watch/listen to Nelson's pitch in the video below, and if you're sold and want to contribute, or need more information about the project, click HERE

The goal is to raise $20,000 in 30 days; if you recall my Kickstarter tips post, that's right around the proverbial sweet-spot with regards to projects that are successfully funded.
