Announced in March, and titled Coming Up, the UK's Channel 4's annual talent initiative that offers up-and-coming writers and directors an opportunity to showcase their work on national TV, with a 2012 lineup that includes 7 brand new original drama feature films to be shown on Channel 4, some involving Brit talent we've covered here on S&A like Ashley Walters (Top Boy) and Michael Ajao (Attack The Block), and Lydia Adetunji, a playwright turned screenwriter.
“Coming Up epitomises Channel 4’s passion for discovering and supporting new talent. It’s a fantastic opportunity for emerging writers and directors to see their distinctive ideas realised on screen, whilst allowing audiences to get the first glimpse of the storytellers of the future. Add to the mix some of the most exciting current acting talent, and I think we can expect some thrilling pieces of work,” said Ben Stoll, Drama Commissioning Editor for Channel 4.
Our UK readers will know that the first 2 films in the series aired earlier this month - the first on July 2, and the second on July 9.
The third, which is one of the few profiled on S&A, airs TONIGHT, as I'm guessing our readers across the pond are aware. If not, now you are!
Titled Camouflage, the script was penned by the aforementioned Lydia Adetunji, and stars Ashley Walters, playing a character named Riza.
The synopsis for Camouflage reads:
Annette teaches patients how to camouflage their scars with make-up. But when Riza walks into her consulting room, she finds herself covering up more than just the scars from his past in Sierra Leone.
Lara Pulver plays Annette. And above is an official photo of the pair from the film.
Those in the UK can find a preview of tonight's episode on Channel 4's website HERE. Those outside the UK will have to imagine what the film looks like based solely on the above photo, because the videos can't be watched outside the UK. Sorry.
And also on Channel 4's website you'll find the first 2 episodes available to watch in full if you missed them.
No word on whether any of these new films will travel.
