First, Taraji P. Henson co-stars alongside Orlando Bloom is the suspense drama, The Good Doctor, which centers on an ambitious but anxious young doctor, eager to impress his superiors and colleagues played by Rob Morrow, Troy Garity, and no-nonsense nurse Theresa played by Taraji P. Henson. But things are not going Martin's way and he can't seem to shake off his insecurities. When an 18-year-old patient played by Riley Keough is admitted for a kidney infection, Martin steps in, getting the much-needed boost of self-esteem he craves. But things take a dark turn as his enthusiasm begins to become an obsession.

Magnolia Pictures is releasing the film, which is also on VOD/digital download, by the way.

Second, The Ambassador - provocative Danish director Mads Brügger's said to be darkly comic, genre-bending piece of journalism, in which he rips the corroded lid off the global scheme of political corruption and exploitation happening in "one of the most dangerous places on the planet," the Central African Republic.

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema’s Drafthouse Films acquired USA rights to the film, to release at the IFC Center in NYC on August 29, as then at The Cinefamily in L.A. and Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, on August 31.

Third, Cory Hardrict co-stars alongside Shawn AshmoreAshley BellMichael EklundDominic Monaghan, and Shannyn Sossamon in the sci-fi thriller from director Douglas Aarniokoski, titled The Day - a film that was actually shot in 2010, and was finally released Stateside, in theaters, this week

What's it about? Here's its synopsis:

A group of five survivors, armed with shotguns, axes and machetes, wander the back roads of a ravaged landscape looking for refuge in The Day, a terrifying look into a post-apocalyptic future. As war ravages humanity, destroying civilization and most of life on earth, the survivors realize they must do whatever it takes to stay alive. Lost, starving, and exhausted, they seek shelter in a seemingly safe abandoned farmhouse. However, while searching for food and resources, they unwittingly set off a trap signaling to their ruthless predators lying in wait to begin their deadly attack. With food and ammunition dwindling, the group must make a desperate final stand--over a 24 hour period--battling for their ultimate survival.

Of course, Hardrict is one of the 5 survivors.

And lastly, catch Toni Braxton in the family film, The Oogieloves In The Big Balloon Adventure

Synopsis:

On Schluufy's birthday, the Oogieloves (Goobie, Zoozie and Toofie), and their friends J. Edgar, Windy Window and Ruffy, work on organizing a party. Everything is going as planned until J. Edgar trips and loses the last five magical balloons in all of Lovelyloveville, prompting The Oogiloves set out to find the magical balloons in time for the party. Along the way, they meet Dotty Rounder (Cloris Leachman), Bobby Wobbly (Cary Elwes), Marvin Milkshake (Chazz Palminteri), Rosalie Rosebud (Toni Braxton) and Lola and Lero Sombrero (Christopher Lloyd and Jaime Pressly).

Marketed as an "interactive film" with the full-bodied puppets, the film reportedly encourages singing and dancing along in the theater by children and their parents.

So take the kids and have fun.

That's all I've got.

If there are any local screenings in your area, wherever yo are, that you think audiences should know about, feel free to mention in the comments section.
