New In USA Theaters This Weekend: Family Drama 'The Last Fall,' Sci-Fi Drama 'Cloud Atlas'

First, in limited release, Matthew Cherry's family/sports drama, The Last Fall, which stars Lance Gross and Nicole Beharie.

After 7 months on the film festival circuit, starting with its SXSW debut, the film begins its theatrical run today, Friday, October 26th, in Los Angeles, at the Rave Cinemas in the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw plaza. 

Showtimes are as follows: 10:10am,12:30pm, 3:00pm, 5:30pm, 8:10pm and 10:50pm, in a 200 seat theater. 

Once again, its synopsis reads:

After several years in the playing professional football, Kyle Bishop is released from his fourth team in three years and returns to his home town, broke and at a complete loss about what he will do for a living. After an initially cold reception, Kyle reconnects with Faith Davis, his old high school sweetheart. Ready to leave football far in the past, Kyle gets a job at a local gym and starts planning a new life with Faith and her young son, Von. However, when Kyle unexpectedly gets a lucrative offer from another professional team, and the father of Faith's son, Rell, tries to win his way back in her life, he is torn about what path to take.

Vanessa Bell Calloway, Harry Lennix, Darrin Henson and Keith David round out the cast of the film, which was produced by Gross, along with Nikki Love and Scott Hebert, Ellis Hobbs, Monique Hobbs and Monica A. Young.

As usual, if the film does very well when it opens in LA, expect a gradual expansion into other cities.

And secondly, in wide release, from the Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer comes Cloud Atlas, which opens October 26.

Based on an adaptation of David Mitchell’s novel of the same name, the film stars Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Susan Sarandon, Keith David, David Gyasi, Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Doona Bae, Ben Wishaw, James D’Arcy and Zhou Xun.

Its synopsis reads:

"Cloud Atlas" explores how the actions and consequences of individual lives impact one another throughout the past, the present and the future. Action, mystery and romance weave dramatically through the story as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero and a single act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution in the distant future.

Critics are about split on this one, with a 59% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with 137 reviews in thus far.
