New Season Of ITVS' Futurestates Short Film Project Has Begun - Watch The Films Now

The Living

Season 4 of the ITVS Futurestates program has launched officially, (it actually did so on April 24) with another group of 7 futuristic short films from 7 different filmmakers and their own individual visions of what the America of tomorrow will look like.

As a reminder, the initiative produces a series of short films by up-and-coming filmmakers, commissioned by ITVS that explore “possible future scenarios through the prism of today’s global realities.

Each episode presents a different vision of American society in the not-too-distant future, by each filmmaker (or as ITVS calls them, “Independent Prognosticators“) – using speculative fiction to explore, on film, social issues.

We've been following the series since its first season, featuring some great Futurestates films from filmmakers like Barry Jenkins, A. Sayeeda Clarke, Tina Mabry and others.

This season (season 4), we'll get to see the work of Julian Breece - a short titled The Living

Here's its synopsis:

Organ Harvesting Initiative surgeon Isaac North visits a Colorado refugee town where quadriplegic Luther Hillman has signed up to be euthanized in return for his family's medical care, his organs harvested for more “productive” citizens.

It stars Brandon Scott, Harmony Santana (her first role since starring in Rashaad Ernesto Green's Gun Hill Road last year), Sy Richardson, and Lisa Goodman.

While Breece's The Living won't debut until the 22nd (a new one is released about every week), there are 3 on the FutureStates website currently, for you to watch in full:

So, to do so, or for more information about all 7 short films from this season (as well as all the shorts from previous seasons), visit: FutureStates.tv.

This year, all 7 shorts will air on Futurestates.tv, as well as on PBS.org, and PBS TV.

Here's the trailer for Breece's contribution to the series:
