WHAT? Another American Idol item? So let's see. Mariah Carey is definitely on board. Then there was reports that Diddy had been offered a role as a judge on the show. Then that was followed by reports that Pharrell Williams had been in negotiations for weeks and had signed on. But now that story seems to be shaky.

However now the The Washington Post (and you can't doubt the Post) is reporting that Nicki Minaj is in "advanced negotiations" and in the 'final stages" in closing a deal to join Carey as a judge when the new season of Idol starts in January.

According to another source who was quoted: "I'm not sure the deal is completely done yet, but yes, she is definitely doing it."

The executive producer of Idol, Nigel Lythgoe, said that such a move would be a "shake up" designed to bring to life back to the show and woo back viewers who feel that Idol has gone flat and predictable.

Still even with Minaj on board will that get you to watch Idol again? Or is it over and done with?

If Nicki gets this American Idol deal--baby, I'm there like swimwear. Finally a little bit of "fun" on American Idol. Mariah and Nicki both speak whats on their minds and baby its gonna be a riot! I live. Can't wait.

There are so many other performers that should have been ahead of her on the consideration list that by the time they got to her name the show should have been extinct.

We at American Idol understand the need to expand our reach beyond the conservative, mid-western audience and so we are adding a blonde black woman who appeals to the deaf. Please check out our other charitable causes over at our website. - PR Officer, American Idol.

LOL! I heard about this and it makes no sense but all sense. I get that she is popular and would bring in all her "Barbz" and a younger audience... Shouldn't the judges have some years behind them? years in the biz, the know-how, the inner-workings, the how-to of having a lasting-legacy in show business and entertainment? I heard also that Kanye is in the running. I don't know. I mean XFactor has Demi Lovato and she's a youngin' drawing young viewers. She was a Disney kid. I don't know the length of time she's been in entertainment either. I think whoever they select, be it Kanye, Nicki, etc. will definitely shake things up and that's what they are intending to do, I reckon. I read somewhere where Mariah mentioned having Lenny Kravitz as a judge...if he would do it. I think that would be an EXCELLENT casting because Lenny has been doing this things for MANY YEARS and still manages to rock out with audiences young and old.
