Of course what the final numbers will be won't come out until Sunday but right now, judging from the box office take from late Thursday midnight and Friday screenings, The Hunger Games is headed for a spectacular opening weekend.

Right now it's projected to make somewhere around $140 million during its opening weekend which will put it in 5th place on the list of the all time biggest box office weekend openings. But insiders are saying that it will probably do even more that which could possibly move it up to 3rd place or higher on the list.

And whatever will be the final opening numbers for Games will be, the film will make history with the biggest box office opening ever for a non-sequel film.

In case you're wondering, No.1 on the list is last tear's Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2 which grossed over $169 million in its opening weekend and number two was The Dark Knight which made about $158.5 million in its opening weekend

We'll have the final numbers for Games tomorrow as usual.

The Japanese film "Battle Royale", where they probably got the idea from, was waaay better..

There is no "they". Suzanne Collins wrote the novel and was inspired by many things: Greek mythology, Roman gladiators, the Iraq and Vietnam wars, and reality TV. I suspect that Battle Royale and The Lottery were probably in the mix as well.

Akimbo, yes, Amandla Stenberg was awesome. Although the role of Rue in the book was not large, I wish that they'd not cut so much of her time with Katniss in the movie. I wanted to see more of Amandla. On the other hand, I could have seen less of Lenny Kravitz. He came off to me as flat.

I haven't seen the movie, so maybe I should to understand why everyone is so negative here. These days, you'd be hard-pressed to find an original concept anyway, but it's the execution that's most important. Sometimes people copy off of others and sometimes two or more separate people come up with similar ideas. Does anyone have anything to say about the actual quality of the movie? I'm sure Amandla Stenberg (aka Lil Zoe Saldana in Colombiana) was awesome.

American culture in a nutshell. The perception of originality strengthened by complete and utter ignorance of the rest of the world.

There is more than one actor in Hunger Games? Based on their marketing, I thought Jennifer Lawrence was playing all of the roles.

I've seen plenty that included other characters, but even if I hadn't: she's the flat-out lead. Who else is marketed in a Will Smith movie besides Will Smith?
