Hot off the presses... no real surprises here. These awards lists all just start to blend together for me... just once, I'd love to see one that blows up the predictability of the season. Maybe when I come up with my own list, I'll do just that.

I should also add that the SAG awards list often very closely resembles the Oscar noms list. In fact, last year, the actor and actress who won the SAG award in the Outstanding Performance by a Male (Colin Firth, The King's Speech) and by a female (Natalie Portman, Black Swan) both went on to win the Oscars for Best Actor and Best Actress earlier this year. So, consider this a look at what the Oscar noms list might look like when that's revealed next year.

The SAG awards ceremony will be simulcast live on Sunday, January 29, 2012 on TNT and TBS at 8 pm (ET)/5 pm (PT)

The full list of nominees follows below:

Blend together? Did you look at the supporting actor category? Three of those nominations came out of know where. Glenn Close has been shown zero love thus far in the race. I'd say the SAG noms are rather refreshing compared to all the critic group's lists.

Shame we don't talk as much about TV... Full of unbelievable boring, lazy choices. And no Supporting categories for TV limits the field a lot.

This is nice and all but is Shadow & Act going to announce the nominees for the 2012 Black Reel Awards? This is most certainly the best and most important awards for black cinema. S&A should acknowledge them.

  • Colored | December 14, 2011 2:44 PM

Also didn't say anything about the African American Film Critics .

Yeah, no surprise about Shame (Fassbender). However I wanted to see Shannon mentioned for Shelter. He gave an excellent performance. I knew that they were going to nominate Davis and Spencer in The Help. Glad to see the Fishburne was nominated for Thurgood. He was brilliant. By the way Streep will not get the award for Iron Lady, it will be given Davis. (However I will see Iron Lady just for Streep. Just for her doing Thatcher, I want her to get the award -No offense Viola : / )

Glad to see the nods for Viola, Octavia and Laurence Fishburne.

  • Margo | December 14, 2011 11:54 AMReply

Loved that all my shows were nominated especially Good Wife and Modern Family. The likelihood of The Good Wife taking anything home except for Best Actress is low, but they had an amazing season last year and I feel like they should be rewarded for it.

Great news to see that Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer were nominated....it would be even more amazing if they win! They were spectacular in The Help *keeps fingers crossed* I am also glad to see Bridesmaid was nominated, who cares if its a comedy, one of the best films this year and probably the the most funny film. Will be interesting to see the Golden Globe nods

I can't believe Pariah was overlooked....

  • bondgirl | December 14, 2011 11:28 AMReply

Not surprised Shame was overlooked. My horse came in though...GO VIOLA & OCTAVIA!! lol

  • Richard | December 14, 2011 11:12 AMReply

No Surprises!?? The nom for Demián Bichir for A Better Life is COMPLETELY unexpected to me! But a nice surprise, it's a great performance. Jonah Hill for Moneyball is a little surprising too. But on the whole the list is disappointing, especially in Best Actor in a feature. It's hard to take any list seriously that doesn't recognize the two best male performances of the year: Michael Fassbender in Shame and Michael Shannon in Take Shelter.

  • Vanessa | December 14, 2011 11:10 AMReply

Well, actually, I am surprised Michael Fassbender and Gary Oldman didn't get noms for Shame and Tinker, Tailor, Soldier Spy respectively; but Demian Bichir does for "A Better Life." Haven't seen the films; but I haven't seen Bichir's name; or maybe I missed it at other awards.
