If you missed parts 1 and 2 in this series click HERE for 1, and HERE for 2 to catch up...

Today's entry in the conversation is short and sweet.

A simple proposition: we (those who write for S&A) are constantly telling you folks what black filmmakers we're excited about (see my "2012 films we're excited about" series as an example), and who you all should be paying attention to.

Today, I'd like to turn things around and instead have you tell us (and others reading) what black filmmakers you are excited about (a fanboy, or fangirl of) and/or that think we should be paying more attention to, but, for whatever reason, aren't.

And by the way, I'm not just referring to black American filmmakers; I'd like to read comments naming filmmakers from all across the Diaspora.

It would also be great if you can tell us what about the filmmakers you list excites you, why you're a fanboy/girl for each filmmaker, or at least, tell us something about their work.

Like I said, easy, so dive in and school us.

    Carl Ford
    Director
He had a retrospective of his shorts and features in April which for me was an amazing surprise at Black Nexxus his mother's acting studio. He is completely under the radar. Nothing on youtube and scant google links but his work is great. He needs money and marketing. His most recent Finding Richard genus. He's named as one of the producers on 30 Beats set to be released this summer.
His mother Susan Batson played the acting coach in Girl 6 and appears in some of his work.

Oh I can't forget about my SHEro Ava Duvernay she gets plenty of shine on this site but her work excites me. Also I'm looking forward to seeing more from Terrance Nance and Stephen Lloyd Jackson and I'll be first in line for any Black Dynamite sequels

The person who most excites me in black indie cinema isn't a director, it's Bradford Young I think he's brilliant. His work is so beautiful and poetic I wish every black director could use him I never get tired of his shots he really brought Restless City to life.

I think Newbe actress "Verina Banks" deserves attention, though new to acting she has managed to book five indie films in less than a year including the leads in 'KEY OF BROWN' with veteran actor "Europe Harmon" and "CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR" with "Clifton Powell" and co-starring roles in "THE RED BOWTIE", "THAT'S WHAT'S UP" AND "LIVING WITHOUT REGRETS". Also film maker "Shaheed Shaheed" who's fourth feature "THE RED BOWTIE" is having it's red carpet premiere tonight in Newark NJ, Robert treat hotel at 7:30p.

Wanuri Kahiu is high on my list. A talented black female Sci-fi director!?! I'm sold. I hope to see more from her. Of course there is always Steve McQueen. He's an amazing visual artist. If he is directing a project, I'm there!
