Another highlight from the upcoming New Voices In Black Cinema Film Festival (NVBC) in Brooklyn, NY, is Let's Stay Together, directed by Joshua Bee Alafia - a work-in-progress screening the filmmaker describes as a work of magical realism.

Starring Albert Lamont, Ashley Ramsey, Jill Jose, Jonan Everett, and Joshua Bee Alafia, the 100 minute film was inspired by the suggestion that an Al Green album could save families; specifically, a young man embarks on a mission to better understand and unite African American families, providing rich commentary on matters of concern regarding black American households.

The film was shot in Brooklyn, where the NVBC fest is held, at BAMcinématek, from February 16th through the 20th - this Thursday through Monday.

Let's Stay Together will screen on Sunday, the 19th, at 9:30pm, and will be followed by a Q&A with director Joshua Bee Alafia and special guests from the cast and crew, moderated by Charli Penn, relationships editor for Essence.com.

For tickets go to www.BAM.org, or visit the BAMcinématek box office at 30 Lafayette St, Brooklyn, NY 11217. Call 718.636.4100 ext 1 for more details.

In the first clips below, watch a teaser for the film, and underneath that, my video-taped interview with the director who further expounds on his film and filmic motivations.
