Octavia Spencer continues to rack up the projects... certainly no post-Oscar curse here!

This time she has joined the already cast Paula Patton and Derek Luke in playwright/director David E. Talbert's rom-com, Baggage Claim, for Fox Searchlight, based on his best-selling debut novel about a flight attendant with thirty days and thirty thousand miles to find a husband.

Of course Patton stars as our husband-seeking flight attendant, and, although not confirmed yet, Luke will likely play the male lead.

Here's Amazon's description of the novel:

Pledging to keep herself from being the oldest and the only woman in her entire family never to wed, Montana embarks on a thirty-day, thirty-thousand-mile expedition to charm a potential suitor into becoming her fiancé. Whom will she choose? Damon Diesel, a P. Diddy wannabe; Reverend Curtis P. Merewether, pastor of Greater House of Deliverance, Tabernacle of Praise, Worship, and Miracles; pompous attorney-turned-councilman Langston Jefferson Battle III; or Quinton Jamison, a multimillionaire who's twenty years her senior?

No word on what character Spencer will play in the film.

Since her Oscar win, she's been a busy bee, from a starring role in Diablo Cody’s still-untitled directing debut, to a project I'm really looking forward to, Joon-ho Bong's thriller Snowpiercer (he directed the awesome South Korean creature feature The Host), to the Forest Whitaker-producer Oscar Grant project, Fruitvale, and more.

I wonder if ppl would view this project differently if taraji was still attached. I love Paula and Octavia but Derek? Snooze.Zzzzzzzzz

Girl please. Paula seems like a wonderful person but has never been much of an actress. And Octavia won an Oscar for literally playing herself; I'm yet to see any range from her either. Derek on the other hand gets a bad reputation for no reason. He was terrific in a number of his movies and (along with Chiwetel Eijofor) is one of the most promising black actors. I'm sorry but if performances like Antwone Fisher, Miracle at St. Anna and Catch A Fire put your to sleep, it's saying more about your taste than his ability.

Agreed. This is a total dud. White Hollywood now views Paula as the
new Halle Berry. In reality, not only is Halle more outwardly beautiful
than Paula -- and more talented -- she has greater intelligent, is thoughtful,
    and fiercely driven.
After the DD movie, she was Oscar and Golden Globe worthy for "Frankie
and Alice," which didn't get near the market exposure, critical acclaim or
    audience support that it deserved.

Talbert, Patton, and Spencer officially make three strikes. Won't be seeing this one.
