Exactly 2 weeks from today, December 28, Dee Rees' award-winning feature film debut, which we've covered quite extensively on S&A, will make its commercial theatrical debut in 3 cities; a week later, January 6th, 2012, it'll expand to 6 more cities.

And this evening, we've got the official word on the specific cities as well as the theaters it'll open in over that 2 week period.

First, on December 28th, it'll open in New York (at the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center, and Landmark Sunshine Cinema 5), in Los Angeles (at the ArcLight Cinemas Hollywood 14 & Dome), and in San Francsico (at the Landmark Embarcadero Center Cinema 5).

A week later, January 6th it'll expand to 6 more cities: Cambridge, MA (at the Landmark Kendall Square Cinema 9), Chicago, IL (at the AMC River East 21 ETX, and Landmark Century Centre Cinema 7), Dallas, TX (at the Landmark Magnolia 5), San Diego, CA (at the Landmark Hillcrest 5), Seattle, WA (at the Landmark Harvard Exit Theatre 2), and finally Washington, DC (at the Landmark E-Street Cinema 8).

So there ya have it folks... if you live in any of the above 9 cities, you'll be one of the lucky ones who'll get to see the film during its first 2 weeks of release. So, enjoy the priviledge and take full advantage!

I'll be reposting this during the film's opening week as a reminder.

Here's its trailer again:

ATLANTA??? The city with perhaps the largest black gay population? Nada? Why?

Atlanta has been having a dry spell with the premieres lately huh?

  • Yibbet | December 14, 2011 9:07 PM

It opens Jan. 13 @ Midtown Art in Atlanta (according to their website at least).

People who don't live in any of those cities need to organize a lobbying campaign among their friends and tell their local theater owners to book the film.
