"Thrilled to welcome the brilliant #OmarSy from the amazing film #TheIntouchables to the cast of #Xmen #DaysofFuturePast!
"

The above is a tweet from director Bryan Singer posted this weekend.

To translate - Omar Sy has been cast in X-men: Days Of Future Past. I believe this makes him the first black actor to be officially cast in the movie.

Of course Halle Berry is clearly in talks to reprise her role as Storm, as Sergio reported exclusively a few days ago. So we wait to find out what the final result of those talks will be. Almost all the key figures from her X-Men class of several years go (Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page and Shawn Ashmore) will return to reprise their roles in Days Of Future Past, so I don't see why she'd be the odd man (or woman) out.

As for what role Sy will play, Singer didn't say. So that's another piece of news we'll have to wait for. But I'm sure those of you who are intimately familiar with the X-Men universe (specifically the story that Days Of Future Past will tell) have your own ideas on what character Mr Sy has been cast to play, so feel free to share.

Sy will next be seen in Michel Gondry's whimsical Parisian tale, Mood Indigo.

I think mr sy should play black panther because if its future everyone should know that storm and black panther are married that should be a key point in her life for the future. Plus black panther is my favorite character

    2. He could be playing a young Bolivar Trask, which was a role originated by Bill Duke. That would eliminate the theory that Peter Dinklage is taking the role.

    2. Speaking of colorblind casting, that means Sy could play anyone we haven't seen in previous X-films. There is a chracter named Ahab in the comic book on which this is based. He could easily be played by Sy. Ahab is a villain.

    3. Totally new character who's not from the comics. We've seen this before, and they could do it again. He could be some suit.

    4. A character from the comics, but not part of the original story. We've seen this in, I guess, every X-men film. They will yank a character who has no business being in, for example, the 60s, and put them there. Zoe Kravitz played such a character, and so did Edi Gathegi. Maybe he'll be Bishop, who is from the future, and is a time traveler.

Since X1, Singer has pulled characters/storylines from all X-Men realms of continuity - from both the comics and various animated series. With that being said, Omar Sy is most likley Bishop - a time-travelling mutant police force member from a dystopian future whole travels back in time to join the X-Men. In the "X-Men: The Animated series," continuity, Bishop was key in the "Days of Future Past" storyline - he was sent into the past to prevent the assassination that would begin the enslavement of humans and set the stage for his future timeline to exist.

Bishop is a complex character, maybe due to the fact that he is one of the more "time-less" X-Men characters because he's always time/reality/universe travelling. Between his own timeline and the "Age of Apocalypse" storyline, he is one of the few X-Men characters with memories of past, present, and alternate realities.

Don't know, but let's hope he lasts longer than Edi Gathegi did in X-Men First Class.
