So... I posted this on Twitter and Facebook, and thought I'd share it here as well for those who don't follow S&A on Twitter or Facebook... This only just hit me this morning...
The name of the character that Christoph Waltz plays in Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained is Dr. King Schultz.
So, my question is, in the film, what will he be called most of the time? Dr King or Dr Schultz? You see where I'm going with this, I hope.
I doubt that after his initial introduction, Django, played by Jamie Foxx, the character that spends the most time with Dr King Schultz, will continue to call him by his full name, Dr. King Schultz, throughout the film.
It'll probably be shortened to either Dr King or Dr Schultz. And if it's the former... well... ahem.
Quentin Tarantino's a smart dude; I'm pretty damn sure he knew exactly what he was doing when he named that character as he was penning the script. This is no coincidence.
Or maybe it is... I don't know.
The white man who frees Django from bondage, makes him his partner, trains him in gunplay, and essentially acts as something of a mentor to him (at least in the version of the script I read last year) is called Dr King (a name that was also used to address a slain black Civil Rights leader with a holiday observance all his own)... OR will it be Dr Schultz. Or will it be Dr King Schultz throughout the film.
Tarantino, you sly dog.
