Sweetie Pie's

SAY WHAT? OWN finally has a hit show? I'm referring to their reality program "Welcome to Sweetie Pie's" and being grateful, the network has ordered an addtional 10 more episodes of the show, bringing the total to 18 episodes to date. The new episodes start shooting next month to air in the spring.

The show follows the lives, loves and struggles of Robbie Montgomery and her family, who run the well known Sweetie Pie's soul food restaurant in St. Louis. The network claims that the show "made ratings waves," up 73 percent from a year earlier, and the most recent episode was the high rated show ever.

According to Sheri Salata, co-president of OWN: "We've all fallen in love with the Montgomery family. You never know what they'll do or say next. We couldn't be more pleased viewers are tuning in to enjoy all the fun."

Just goes to show what people have been saying all along - just put some black people on OWN and watch viewers tune in.

I am truly excited about up and coming shows. I must say I was a little concerned since there were no reruns being shown. I really enjoy the realistic concepts you put into place each episode and send many blessing for the upcoming season!

    Peace And Blessings

I started watching Sweetie Pies over Thanksgiving weekend out of boredom from food and football. They didn't disappoint! I'm hooked!

This white suburban Grandma has been eating at Sweetie Pie's for years - ever since Guy Fieri covered the restaurant on his show. The food is great, as is the service. I've enjoyed watching the series. I'm so glad that it's a hit - can't wait for the new episodes.

I absolutely love "Welcome to Sweetie Pie's." This is one reality show I look forward to watching every week. I only have one request. Though the original show airs on Saturday night, I would love for it to air during the weeknights also. When it aired on Wednesday that was perfect. But it no longer airs on Wednesday. Sometimes the weekend can be hecked and I would love to watch it again midweek. I LOVE SWEETIE PIE'S!!!!

Funny how I found out about the show. I received a message via facebook from Tyler Perry. It needs to be advertised more. Smile

Oprah, you have struck gold with the new hit series "Sweetie Pie'S". The show is fun and filled with scenes that the entire family can enjoy and relate too. Thank you for giving us back our 21st Century Fred and Lamont Sandford in the form of Ms. Robbie and Tim. Although Fred and Ms. Robbie have two separate personalities, both serve as the matriarch of the Family and are beloved by the people. Ms. Winfrey, you operate in the "Spirit of Excellence". God's Speed!!

I love this show too. Realty television that is so down to earth and positive - and its about Black people! who knew it was possible...

@Sista Toldja - I think its mostly perception. People keep believing Oprah doesn't support or ignores Black people. Hard to break this perception...

  • Huewilly | November 20, 2011 1:55 AMReply

    Great show! Continued Success!

  • Sista Toldja | November 20, 2011 12:52 AMReply

Sweetie Pie's was in development before the OWN network debuted. Not sure where these assessments are coming from.

  • Orville | November 19, 2011 11:46 PMReply

Oprah needs to continue adding more black content on OWN. Sweetie Pie's success should show Oprah that if she wants to attract a DIVERSE audience she needs to move beyond white America.

  • Marcia | November 19, 2011 7:03 PMReply

    I LOVE this show!

  • La Creta | November 19, 2011 5:55 PMReply

I love this show!!!!!!!!! The best show!!!!

  • Cynthia | November 19, 2011 1:47 PMReply

I watched it Sergio and I think you're correct...adding some "colorful" shows will add a boost more than they think.

  • B | November 19, 2011 1:42 PMReply

Well, I guess Oprah finally realized she'd have to get back to black if she wanted her network to succeed. I don't know why it takes so much for some black celebrities (who make it - i.e. experience cross-over success) to realize that ultimately black folks will be their most loyal supporters, no matter how much white folks love them. At the end of the day, black celebrities who remember who they are and cater to their black fans have the greatest longetivity in Hollywood. At least that's what I've noticed. And, btw, I totally agree with the last sentence of the article: "Just goes to show what people have been saying all along - just put some black people on OWN and watch viewers tune in."
