Pariah To Screen at London Film Festival In October

Shadow and Act By Sergio | Shadow and Act September 7, 2011 at 6:28AM

You know I'm getting the feeling that Dee Rees' Pariah is going to be THE Black film of 2011. Of course there are A LOT of black films out there, but you know what I mean. The one that is going to get everyone talking and debating about (and hopefully get people frothing at the mouth and into violent fist fights says Sergio, rubbing his hands with glee).

And you know that Focus Features is really excited about this film, and sees its potential since, starting next week, they're going to start conducting advance media screenings some four mouths before the film is released in December.

I'm hard-pressed to recall the last time a studio screened any film so far in advance before its actual release date. I do remember seeing Precious some three months before it came out, which was unusual; but four months is a record.

But I digress. All this is to say that Pariah will be screened next month at this year's BFI London Film Festival which takes place Oct 12-27.

Among the other black films that we have covered here extensively on S & A, or films that will be no doubt of interest to our devoted readers, which will also screen at the festival are: Shame, I'm Carolyn Parker, Sing Your Song, Wuthering Heights, Dreams of A Life, Junkhearts, Sket, The Black Power MixTape 1967 - 1975, Restless City, Otelo Burning and three short films under the New African Cinema banner - Tinye So, Umkhungo and Mwansa The Great.
