Playing in select theaters beginning this Friday is the third feature film from Patrik-Ian Polk, director of LGBT-themed indie films Noah's Arc:Jumping the Broom and Punks, and creator of the Noah's Arc series for the Logo network.

The Skinny tells the story of "a group of four young, black, gay men, Magnus, Sebastian, Kyle, Joey and their lesbian best friend, Langston. They arrange to meet up in New York City one year after their graduation from Brown University. Their plans for a weekend of fun start off well, relaxed in each other’s company, as only old friends can be. But old tensions quickly resurface."

The project also features original music written and performed by Polk, which you can sample on the film's website.

We last posted about the film when the trailer was released during the summer. Now, The Skinny prepares for a theatrical premiere on April 6 in Atlanta and Washington DC, followed by Dallas and Oakland on April 20, and Chicago and San Francisco on April 27.

With The Skinny, Polk strives to address issues facing the LGBT community, including date-rape, infidelity, and HIV/AIDS awareness. For the film's release, he has also partnered with the Black AIDS Institute to promote the importance of health in the LGBT community. The Institute will sponsor appearances, receptions and panel discussions in Washington D.C. and Atlanta.

The films lesbian storyline could have been better explored but agreed. Very good film and kudos to Jussie Smollett in the lead. Very believable.
