This could be really interesting, and I'd support it.

The story goes... Central Park Tale is a fresh twist on West Side Story. This timeless story of star-crossed lovers will be set against the backdrop of a squirrel turf battle in New York City’s Central Park. Featuring rollicking dance numbers and the voices and songs of top urban and hip hop artists, Central Park Tale offers a hip, contemporary take on a classic story that will appeal to children and adults alike.

There's a lot more to this story, but instead of me writing about it, I'll let the 7-minute video do all the talking.

I should note that it was announced today that Film France has gotten behind the project, which doesn't necessarily immediately translate to funds, but it's definitely a vote of confidence, and should help raise the project's profile.

Film France is essentially The French Film Commission - the first stop for foreign production companies and individuals preparing to film in France, offering assistance on locations, crews, labor rates and facilities, as well as contacting appropriate agencies regarding immigration/work permits and filming permits, and more.

The filmmakers are hoping to raise $40,000, but not to make the film; the money is to make a strong promo/teaser that'll show what the eventual film will look, sound and feel like, which the filmmakers will then use to shop around for financing for the feature.

Click HERE to contribute, with 13 days left to go, and the Kickstarter campaign goal still not reached.

Watch, and hopefully be excited:

I have a squirrel project I've been making notes for since college, inspired by the campus's abundant squirrel population and the presence of an albino squirrel (which became UNT's unofficial mascot) -- except in my story there's a war between squirrels and birds over turf. Great minds... LOL Good luck to these filmmakers!

Kids are sophisticated nowadays, not sure how they will respond to break dancing rodents. Aside from that I love animation and curious to see what they come up with. Also those dancers are very talented.
