I'd like to see this... I'm almost always up for a musical documentary/experiment/exploration.
The gist of it:
Five DJs turn the tables on the history of music. Follow DJ Premier, Mark Ronson, Skrillex, Pretty Lights and The Crystal Method as they remix, recreate and re-imagine five traditional styles of music. From the classical perfection of the Berklee Symphony Orchestra to the bayou jams of New Orleans jazz, our five distinctive DJs collaborate with some of today’s biggest musicians to discover how our musical past is influencing the future.
Directed by Amir Bar-Lev, the feature documentary will screen in select cities for just 2 days - on February 16th and February 23rd. Head over to the project's website to find out if your city will be one of them; and while there, if you learn that it won't be, you're encouraged to request a screening in your hometown (just click the button towards the bottom of the page that says so).
It was funded by Hyundai - yes the car manufacturer.
Here's what film's Facebook says:
Hyundai is providing a platform for today’s most innovative artists to step out of their comfort zones and create something bold for today’s generation of musicians and music fans.
Hopefully it's not just a 90-minute Hyundai commercial.
