Courtesy of Urban Daily: "“Monkey Gang: The Mockumentary” a hip-hop comedy that parodies negativity in Gangsta Rap and Hip Hop culture."

The mock-documentary is said to have premiered in a successful June screening, with comparisons being made to films we all know and love like Hollywood Shuffle, Fear Of A Black Hat and Bamboozled. Bold!

The film will screen a second time this Sunday, July 3rd, at 2pm, here in New York City, at the Anthology Film Archives.

Tickets are $20 at the door, or $10 in advance. For advance tickets contact email:

Watch the preview trailer below and gauge for yourselves; I get that it's a mockumentary, but this schtick has already been done quite a bit, on TV variety shows, and in movies, that it mocking so-called Gangsta rap culture in 2011 just seems passé. I don't think I could take more than a few minutes of this, assuming the trailer is indicative of all that the film has to offer. But if I've got time to kill on Sunday afternoon, I just might drop in and check it out in full:

Monkey Gang is an look into the future based on the past, do your homework on the NAMES & behaviors of the majority of todays crews & sets in hip hop / gangsta rap as the creators of this Mockumentary did and tell me it's not accurate! Its been done before but not touching on the issues like this thats why people are mad and happy about this project. If you ask me the producers got alot of heart for this cuz its obvious it was made by the community and not the industry! All Power To The People!!!

I have no problem with people doing satire but 'Monkey Gang'?

Its sad that i had to see an article on this site about a french comedy mocking slavery, now you have grown black men trying to be funny but they call themselves 'the monkey gang'?

Are we desperate, backward or clueless?

CB4 , Fear Of A Black Hat. Its been done before but i have a problem with that Monkey Gang title. I can see a white supremacist getting their laughs from this kinda bull...

trust me you got to see this movie...gangsta rap has been mocked but never understood and is mostly just coming from white people this is a funny yet serious look at the negative effects of rap culture with a storyline message and plot

don't let previous attempts to satirize gangsta rap fool you this movie is the Spinal Tap of hip hop
