The recently slimmed-down diva, Ms Raven-Symoné is set to take over the lead role in the Broadway musical Sister Act (based on the hit 1992 movie of the same name), replacing Patina Miller (who originated the role from the start) as Deloris Van Cartier (the character Whoopi Goldberg played in the original film and its sequel).

Whoopi Goldberg also serves as producer of the Broadway adaptation which has been running quite successfully since its April 2011 opening.

Raven-Symoné will begin are stint as star of the show at the end of March for a "minimum 6-month engagement," says Deadline.

Still haven't seen the Broadway production yet; it's not high on my list, but I might if I can squeeze it into my hectic schedule this year.

Thank you for this. Now I know what to get my mom and my daughter for their summer birthdays. They'll love going. Now I have to go sell a kidney to pay for the good seats.

Hmm...I'm not too sure about this one. I really think Patina Miller captures Deloris Van Cartier.

I agree. I saw Patina in the production in London back in '09 and like you said she really captured Deloris. Also I don't think I've actually seen Raven in anything where she wasn't playing a teenager or a college student so this might be a stretch for her.
