O.K. folks, the wait is over, and did you do your duty to see Red Tails... OR ELSE THERE WILL NEVER BE A BLACK FILM EVER MADE AGAIN!!!!!

But according to predictions, the film will do O.K., pulling in somewhere in the $17 million range for its opening weekend, with Underworld Awakening, not surprisingly, being No. 1, pulling in between $23-25 million.

However, I caution that this is just a prediction based on last night's numbers, and the final weekend figures, which will be announced by Sunday afternoon as usual, could be higher or lower.

We'll have to wait until tomorrow and see what the final numbers are.

"Colombiana", with Zoe Saldana (a Black woman leading a movie), didn't try to guilt people into seeing the movie, and made almost the same amount in its opening weekend at $10 million as "Red Tails". They had no fanfare, no scare tactics of "YOU MUST GO OR ELSE.." and still did almost as well as Mr. Self-Righteous himself a.k.a George Lucas, and Black-woman-hating racist a.k.a Aaron McGruder.

$17 million is a very weak opening, especially when you think that his Star Wars movies made into the hundreds of million sin opening weekend numbers.

Well I, for one, have never heard the word "sarcasm" and am shocked to hear that had I not seen this film yesterday black cinema might've disintegrated into a supermassive black hole.

I know it can be difficult in writing, but people do realise that Sergio is being sarcastic with his "threat," right? lol

WHAT!? Don't tell me Sergio was being sarcastic when he said: "do your duty to see Red Tails... OR ELSE THERE WILL NEVER BE A BLACK FILM EVER MADE AGAIN!!!!!" . NOOOOOOO, don't tell me that... and I've already spent my money. Curses!

  • jmac | January 22, 2012 12:53 AM

Poor Sergio. No one gets his sarcasm.

I also don't think there should be "threats" for people to see this movie. I think a $16 to $17 million is actually respectable given the fact there are NO A list actors in this movie. Cuba Gooding Jr. and Terrance Howard might think they are leading men but they are NOT. I actually think for a January release the number will be solid.

I don't like the threats ... GO SEE IT OR THERE WILL NOT BE ANYMORE BLACK FILMS!!

We don't have to be coached. Some people hate war movies.

Yes, I went to see it. All I can think about is recruitment, not history.

    Cool. Thanks for the update.

I wonder what the Foreign strategy is? At $17 million, the movie is going to maybe do 40 to 50 if its lucky. That's if it doesn't suffer a massive drop off. But is RED TAILS the type of film that could do well overseas? The worldwide gross could change the conversation.
