Announced last fall, CNN created CNN Films to secure feature-length documentaries to air on CNN and CNN International, alongside theatrical distribution.
The move is part of a wider strategy to acquire original non-fiction content to complement CNN’s news programs.
Its first project, titled Girl Rising, directed by Richard Robbins (Operation Homecoming), has also now been picked up by Regal Cinemas to handle its theatrical distribution.
The doc will see a 1-week theatrical run in more than 70 Regal Cinemas across the country, April 19-26. If you don't live in one of the cities in which the film will play, you can request to host a screening in your neck of the woods.

The film tells the story of several girls fighting tough odds to achieve their dreams. It follows 10 girls in 10 countries struggling for education, and features voice-over commentary by Kerry Washington, Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Selena Gomez, and others.
