Rihanna, Jennifer Hudson, Vivica A. Fox, Jordin Sparks Being Considered for Whitney Houston Biopic

Riri? Really? So, according to this article, R&B/Pop songstress Rihanna and Jennifer Hudson are on the shortlist to portray Whitney Houston in the film biopic we've been talking about here a lot lately. We last posted about Meagan Good expressing her desire to play the late icon. Good's name however is nowhere among the actresses/singers being considered. Apparently Clive Davis wants to get the ball rolling and begin filming soon; he wants the script finalized pronto.

You may recall when Rih dismissed all talk of possibility in playing the lead for The Bodygard remake. She had told OK Magazine, "I hate it when singers do singing movies all the time, because you can never look at them as anybody else. I want to play a character. My whole life is playing Rihanna; being a singer won't be a stretch for me."

It's not just Riri and JHud in the running; It looks like Vivica A. Fox, Jordan Sparks and Willow Smith (Will's daughter) are also being considered. Willow is being considered to play young Whitney. OK, I get that, but aside from Vivica J. Fox and Jennifer Hudson, I really don't see any of these ladies mentioned in the role, especially Jordin Sparks, unless she's playing some other character.

Am I in the Twilight Zone?

I think that Robin Thicke's wife should play Whitney, she has Whitney's features just dubb her voice with Whitney's. But, I think they should wait awhile before they began this project, Whitney just passed don't be in such a hurry to make money.

Paula Patton is a dull, lackluster actress. She has no business playing a washcloth, let alone the oversized personality that is Whitney Houston. Cut it out.

  • Broms | February 29, 2012 3:51 AMReply

j-hud! All the way! Love the list though, all talented women. on the older front, have you heard brandy and monica's new collab? It's called "It all Belongs to Me" check it out

  • nola | February 29, 2012 12:23 AMReply

Since there is no one who can sing like Whitney Houston, I think Joy Bryant should get the role. She has that Whitney type of look and she can act! Angela Bassett did a Phenomenal at playing Tina Turner and she is not a singer. We don't need a singer we need an actress!

  • Randy | February 28, 2012 4:00 PMReply

This has Jennifer Hudson written all over it there isn't anyone else that even comes close. :-)

I say Heather Headley. She's won a Tony and has the same facial expressions as Whitney when she sings.

  • Dizzle | February 28, 2012 1:14 AM

And I'd use the original Aunt Viv-Janet Hubert for an older Whitney. She's older but has kept herself in good form that she looks a bit and can pull off Whitney's final years.

  • MossyAnn | February 27, 2012 11:13 PMReply

I think Vivica deserves da part! Simply because for years now Vivica been wanting to do da Whitney Houston story! Every interview she did she always said her dream role was to play Whitney Houston! She been putting it out there soo I feel she deserves it!

  • isola | February 27, 2012 6:31 PMReply

They should use an unknown actress, it would be great if she could hold a tune as well. They may have to go to Great Britain to find her. I actually like Naomie Harris if they go for a known actress.

  • 3000 | February 27, 2012 11:03 AMReply

Paula Patton or Joy Bryant...those are the only two that could remotely pull off a Whitney performance.

  • Ms. G | April 28, 2012 9:22 AM

I agree with you Paula Patton for sure, I was looking at her in Precious and she has a lot of Whitney's features, dub the voice and let her role. She has the grace that Whitney executed when she was on stage. Paula, Paula, Paula all the way and then my next pick would be Halle, but Paula for sure

  • lovesfilmnmusic | February 27, 2012 2:05 PM

Put the crack pipe down. No way in hell Patton could pull that off.

  • David | February 27, 2012 10:30 AMReply

A looming task for any actress to play Whitney, but I know who should play Bobby --- Tracy Morgan.

  • Ash | February 27, 2012 9:56 AMReply

    Isn't Daily Mail a tabloid?

  • jmac | February 27, 2012 1:32 PM

    I thought so, Ash.

  • Tamara | February 27, 2012 9:54 AMReply

I'm not 100 on any of these choices really, save for Viv who could play an older Whitney. Someone suggested Joy Bryant - can definitely see a youthful Whitney in her. Otherwise, cast an unknown. JMO

I want it to be Rihanna so I can die laughing when the movie crashes and burns. Has any biopic ever been nominated for Razzies before?

  • MsWilliamsWorld | February 27, 2012 9:51 AMReply

Between Clive Davis & Barbara Walters, I can't figure out which one I can't stand the most.

  • Shekina Glory | February 27, 2012 5:10 AMReply

I really dont think anyone is good enough totally. But I see Rihanna doing it more than anyone. Because she has a similar way about her that reminds me of Whitney. The confidence strong look coming from the eyes and the natural sass and confidence. If anyone played Whitney, I would hope it was Riri. :)

  • Logic | February 27, 2012 3:43 PM

She can't sing, she can't act, she can't even speak with a passable American accent, and she's got zero class. She's like the anti Whitney.

  • Ronnie D. | February 27, 2012 12:54 AMReply

Rihanna?? That's gotta be a joke - she doesn't even have a good voice.

  • Nadell | February 26, 2012 11:15 PMReply

Julia Roberts, Paula Patton, Angelina Jolie, Sofia Vergara, Gabourey Sidibe & Charlize Theron should be considered as well!
This irks me to no end. Absolutely Keke Palmer should be considered. Keke is an actress who happens to sing!

  • Ms. G | April 28, 2012 9:27 AM

I don't know about the rest of the people u just named but especially Paula Patton. J Hud, I luv her but know, Rhianna not at all, Vivica no, Paula, could pull the young and the old Whitney., as I said before personally, I think this should be further down the road, Whitney just died money hungry people.

  • Donella | February 27, 2012 1:15 PM

I could see KeKe Palmer doing well in the role.

  • Sonny | February 26, 2012 9:19 PMReply

Nicole Behaire? Joy Bryant? Kerry Washington could pull it off too but use an actress that's underrated or an unknown.

  • BluTopaz | February 26, 2012 8:49 PMReply

Clive is a money grubbing bastard. First he gave instructions for Whitney to not be removed so his precious f'in party would not be disturbed. Now this, 2 weeks after. Somebody should put a curse on this project.

  • Logic | February 27, 2012 3:47 PM

Don't worry, it's already doomed if this speculation is anything to go by. And just to be sure, I'll toss a Miss Celie curse in his direction. Until you do right by Whitney, everything you even think about gon' fail, Clive!

  • sandra | February 26, 2012 8:28 PMReply

When it comes to casting a roles that requires a black actress, HWD doesn't care about accuracy. It's all about going with what has proven to successful. I'm sure Queen Latifah will be in the running as well as Halle Berry. But all will be pushed aside if King Bey expresses interest. In that case, everybody can go home. And...Clive Davis makes me sick. Hasn't he made enough bank on Whitney.

  • Princess Usanga | February 26, 2012 8:18 PMReply

Kerry Washington. She is elegant, stunning, and extremely talented.

  • Tombs | February 26, 2012 8:14 PMReply

Apparently Clive Davis wants to get the ball rolling and begin filming soon; he wants the script finalized pronto. Wow, give Whitney some time to settle in the ground. It's all about money for these soulless parasite.

  • B | February 26, 2012 7:57 PMReply

Hollywood is very clearly the land of uncreative morons that call themselves producers. The fact that they are considering any of these women already proves to me that this film will suck more ways than imaginable. I can't even believe that they are that unwilling to pursue real talent from the world of unknown actors. What is wrong with Hollywood?

  • B | February 26, 2012 11:36 PM

Margo, I agree. It's pure greed. They have no shame.

  • Margo | February 26, 2012 8:40 PM

I completely agree. I don't even know why anyone is talking about a Whitney biopic right the woman literally just died...people are too hungry for money!

  • Margo | February 26, 2012 7:41 PMReply

NO to all of these women! Especially not Vivica with that plastic face of hers...she should have never done that surgery! SMH

  • Monique A. Williams | February 26, 2012 7:10 PMReply

NONE of these women have what it takes. There are plenty of unknowns who can take this and make it a breakout role. Leave the stale regulars out of this!
