I'm in total shock right now; just as much as I was when it was announced that Michael Jackson had died. *Sigh* Don Cornelius died just a week or so ago and now this.

This from the AP:

Whitney Houston, who reigned as pop music's queen until her majestic voice and regal image were ravaged by drug use, erratic behavior and a tumultuous marriage to singer Bobby Brown, has died. She was 48. Publicist Kristen Foster said Saturday that the singer had died, but the cause and the location of her death were unknown.

RIP Ms Houston.

She'd only recently completed shooting the Sparkle remake.

Just unbelievable. Sad.

The rest of the AP story can be read HERE.

WHAT THE F*CK! I've been playing "My Love is Your Love" over and over. You listen to stuff like that, and you feel like love is the only way to live.

  • B | February 12, 2012 12:52 PM

"and you feel like love is the only way to live." Yup. Whitney had the ability to make one feel like that in her songs. Damn, what a loss.

This hurts my heart. For me Whitney was the rare combination of beauty, glamor and unworldly talent. I have always said if God's Angels could sing, they would sound like Whitney Houston. For many of us too young to see Diana Ross at her prime Whitney was our Diana Ross. She was this gorgeous black women who commanded the stage with the talent to match. May the ancestors wrap my sister in their arms and carry her home to God's kingdom.

Whitney, a beauty. And that VOICE. Soaring, sweeping ... celestial. And now at rest.

Great picture of her to post. Nikki Finke used a horrible, sad photo to capitalize on this lady's tragic personal problems. S&A did it with class. Thank You. That's how you treat family and that's what we are. May she rest now.

Why every talents gone so early taken by addictation, sadly enough. R.I.P

  • jmac | February 11, 2012 11:03 PMReply

    Damn, Damn, Damn!!!!

I was hoping it was just an internet rumor.

    RIP finally Whitney

I lost my brother to addiction and now I have lost my favorite singer. The world laughed and judged both of them... but I loved them. What did they ever do to you? I will see you both up there. I have great faith that you are at peace.

That (poorly edited) AP article is clearly one of those pre-written obits that are written for certain high-risk celebrities, which makes it all the more sad. Even with the drugs I wouldn't have figured her for that category.

Two of our greatest legends in music - Don and now Whitney - dead in the space of two weeks. God, this is just depressing. I don't know why, but this news of Whitney's death has hit me harder than any celebrity death. Just sad. R.I.P.
