TV One has unveiled its holiday programming lineup, which will include the premiere of two original specials broadcasts: first, the network’s first-ever holiday variety show, One Christmas, on Saturday, November 30, 8PM/ET, and Russ Parr’s latest feature film, family drama A Christmas Blessing, on Saturday, December 7, 8PM/ET

I had no idea Russ Parr had completed another feature film, since The Undershepherd, so this is certainly news to me. Although this appears to have been made specifically for TV One.

TV One will also air Christmas-themed episodes of the network’s original sitcoms Love That Girl and The Rickey Smiley Show.

Our Christmas programming lineup is truly robust, catering to a full spectrum of holiday sentiments. Viewers can enjoy timely episodes of our fan-favorite sitcoms, while Russ Parr’s touching new film dissects the themes of love and loss, family and redemption,” said D’Angela Proctor, SVP of Programming and Production for TV One. “Balancing these scripted offerings is our One Christmas special featuring an incredible lineup of R&B and gospel artists performing holiday favorites—so there is truly something everyone can enjoy.”

Program descriptions and air dates are as follows:

  • SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 8PM/ETOne Christmas

Co-hosted by husband-and-wife duo, author and film executive DeVon Franklin and actress Meagan Good, this pre-taped, two hour music, dance, spoken word and comedy showcase was filmed at the historic Howard Theater in Washington D.C. Anchored by music performances from Anthony Hamilton, Ron and Ernie Isley, Syleena Johnson, Kem, Ledisi, Lil’ Mo, Chanté Moore, Marvin Sapp, Richard Smallwood, Angie Stone and 3WB (3 Winans Brothers) covering holiday classics, the variety special also features a special dance segment, personal Christmas anecdotes from the performers and additional celebrity guests, and a tribute to members of the U.S. Armed Forces. One Christmas is produced by Favor International and Moxy Media. Lamar Chase is producer for TV One and Tia Smith is executive in charge of production for TV One.

  • FRIDAY, DECEMBER 6, 9PM/ET: Love That Girl – “Happy Hold Up Day”

The whole gang gets taken hostage on Christmas Eve by a down-and-out married couple running from the police after a bank robbery.

  • SATURDAY, DECEMBER 7, 8PM/ET: A Christmas Blessing

This moving family drama chronicles the parallel hardships of Pamela Cleveland (Lisa Arrindell Anderson), a mother of four whose husband, Charles (David Banner), has been killed in action while serving in Afghanistan, and Earl James (Omari Hardwick), a fresh divorcee. While Pamela combats immeasurable grief and a flood of concerns as a new widow, Earl combats anxiety and struggles to maintain custody of and contact with his two sons. Pamela and Earl’s lives are forever transformed when their seemingly separate paths intersect and together, they learn the realities of dating and single-parenthood, the importance of family and the true meaning of Christmas. A Christmas Blessing is produced for TV One by Uptoparr Productions, Inc. and executive produced by Russ Parr. Lamar Chase is producer for TV One and Tia Smith is executive in charge of production for TV One.

  • Friday, December 13, 9PM/ETThe Rickey Smiley Show – “Captive Christmas”

When Rickey and the family get trapped at the church by a freak snowstorm, they take a moment to reminisce on the holiday harmony generated by their strong family connections.

Sufferin' succotash, I don't get TV One from my cable provider! Dangnabbit, this list of holliday programs is right up my alley, but woe is me, somebody call the law because it just ain't fair being a black man in Iowa.

But seriously, Omari Hardwick is arguably one of best black actors who's constantly under the radar. Granted, he was featured in Ava DuVernay's I Will Follow and Middle of Nowhere... the latter of which I've not seen because IT NEVER CAME TO IOWA, but truth be told, those movies, for the most part, are under the radar because they're... **drum roll**... wait for it... they are black films with limited exposure. And, Omari, although an excellent actor, has been, for the most part, relegated to "black films" his whole career... and I don't know why?

Speaking of films and actors and directors who have kept me in quite a quandary of sorts, what ever happened to Russ Parr's The Undershepherd starring Isaiah Washington? I know it wouldn't play well in the cornfields of my neighborhood, but has anyone seen that film outside of Philadelphia or a few film festivals? Russ Parr even dropped by (down here in the comment section to boot) and said we will be pleasantly surprised and appreciative of his film, but ( as Gomer Pyle would say)... "Surprise -Surprise-Surprise... Golly gee whiz Sergeant Carter, the movie has not appeared at the base exchange nor anywhere else in the world, as far as I know".

However, there's no doubt of the level of talent on SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 8PM/ET: One Christmas! Come on now, them black folks (all of them) can sang! So Tambay, help me out, call your boy Russ and ask him if I can have a minute of his time. And, while you're at it, call TV One (I am sure you have mad pull) tell them there are more than a few black folks living in the flatlands, so they should stop on by.

What'sup Ivory, long time no see... how'd your show go?

Hey man, thanks for the info... I'll check it out. But I wonder why we haven't seen a review?

CareyCarey, The Undershepherd was recently released on DVD. I definitely recommend it. Saw it at a film fest in NYC and again when it premiered on TV One in March. ... https://twitter.com/IvoryJeff/status/403027447739731970

Well Dave, I cannot tell a lie "I was born by the river in a little tent, and just like the river I've been running ever since. It's been a long, a long time coming but I know a change gonna come, oh yes it DID". ~ Remix- Sam Cooke's A Change Is Gonna Come

Yes Dave " breath smells like stale beer and moldy cheese" Crocket, I actually was born in Iowa, in a hospital (not a tent) a stone's throw away from the Mississippi River. But my stumping ground was in a little community (actually housing projects) in Illinois. However, after finding love and seeing the world in many foreign countries, I raised my children back in Iowa (the best school systems west of the Mississippi River). But the story doesn't stop there.

Well, first thang you know ol'Carey's a semi-millionaire, kinfolk said, "Carey, move away from there"... said, "Californy is the place you ought to be", so I loaded up my Lincoln and moved to another tree. Hills that is, swimming pools but no movie stars... black folks neighborhood, with white folks still in view of me. But the story does not end there.

My mother recently had a fall which lead to her having a stroke that left her partially paralyzed (she no longer can care for herself). After many years of living an independent life in Illinois, we had to move her to a nursing home in Iowa. One of my brothers and her sister (my aunt), also lives in the same city. Sooooo, you know the rest of the story.
