Tambay

Look who's featured in today's local Fort Greene section of the New York Times.

Shadow & Act Chief Editor Tambay Obenson is profiled in the section's Black History Month 2012 highlights alongside the likes of actor Malik Yoba, artist Danny Simmons, cultural critic Toure, and ActNow Foundation founder Aaron Ingram. In conjunction with the Fort Green Association, the section will honor noted members of the Brooklyn community throughout the month of February, presumably to draw attention to some of the great contributors to the arts, culture, and civic engagement in our midst.

For those that are curious, the article gives some insights about S&A's beginnings as well as Tambay's past and future work in film. There's a particular emphasis on the global focus of S&A and the concept of black cinema as an international industry:

“It’s a global thing, this idea of uniting Africans all over the world in this one space,” Mr. Obenson said. “Regardless of where you are in the world, you can come here and find something that’s of use to you.”
