So How's Angela Bassett In "Green Lantern"?

No doubt many of you are anxious to see how she does in the movie; having seen the film, I can tell you that's there's good news and bad news.

First the good news:

She doesn't get killed off (YAY!); and considering the budget of the film, repotedly $300 million, no doubt she got paid a hell of lot more than she did in the $6.6 million Jumping the Broom.

The bad news is that, not surprisingly, she's not in it much. Just in a few scenes set in a top secret government lab for maybe less than ten minutes total, and she does get knocked around a bit by the villian in the movie. But she's saved by the Green Lantern. Though, to me, in a rather undignified way; and after that, she disappears from the film for good after being swept away (You'll have to see the film to see what I mean).

However in Blake Lively's case, when she's in danger, gets saved very heroically by the Green Lantern. She sure doesn't get tossed aside like the sister.

Now I can hear some of you now: "There he goes again being all super senstiive and stuff". Sorry folks, but I call 'em like I see 'em.. So there

And what is up with Angela's horrible wig?

  • blakdiamon | June 17, 2011 3:12 AMReply

If there will even be a sequel! The reviews for this are horrible and I don't see it making back it's 300 million dollar budget despite it not really having any competition until Captain America and Transformers comes out (X-Men and Super 8's numbers and word of mouth hasn't been impressive. WB must be relieved the they have one more Harry Potter film to rescue them this summer...

@Davyjc Crossing my fingers that thats not just a rumor but in interviews, shes only hinted to her hope of coming back. Where did you hear she already signed on for the GL sequels?

@Orville That is indeed true. Angela Bassett was offered, accepted and for years was ATTACHED to play Storm in the X-Men movie back in 1995. Halle ended up getting the role because Angela dropped out after they lessened her part and took too long to start filming. When they were ready in 2000, she was unfortunately already doing Supernova.

@Anonymous a Strange Days sequel revolving around Angela's Lornette 'Mace' Mason character?? YES! Just give her more guns and more asses to kick!!!!

Since Hollywood is on a non-original kick, I'd love for them to revisit Strange Days, maybe follow-up with a feature starring Angela reprising her role, and of course directed by Bigelow again.

From the looks of the trailer it seemed her part would be minimal, but I'm glad to hear she's signed up for the next installments. Love her.

I heard Angela got offered the part of Storm in the X MEN movies is this true? I think Angela passed on a lot of big opportunities in the late 1990s and early 2000s. I think Angela's career has definitely picked up again though. I mean compared to Halle Berry Angela is doing very well! She was in Jumping The Broom and that movie was a moderate success making over $36 million dollars!

The rumor is she will be in the next two films in the Green Lantern series. She has signed on for both and the writers have written her in.

The hell with this, John Stewart is Green Lantern.

Thanks for updating us, Sergio. I'm just happy to see Angela in this genre. See would be the prototype action heroine. Did you stay til after the credits?

Like I said you have to see the film. I'm not going to spoil it for you

@ Sergio What do you mean when you say she gets saved by the Green Latern in a "undignified way"??
