"I'd say my character is a cross between Medusa and Eartha Kitt - or at least, that's who I was channelling! Razia is queen of the water thieves and they all worship her."

For our readers in the UK.... a quote from Sophie Okonedo, in an interview in which she talks about her role in the BBC/Sky 1 HD production of Sinbad - a TV series that will feature performances from the likes of Elliot KnightGeorge Harris, Ashley Walters and Estella Daniels - began airing last Sunday, July 8, at 9pm. The next episode will air this Sunday at the same time.

You can read the rest of the interview HERE.

I wish we here in the USA could watch her channel Medusa and Eartha Kitt simultaneously; alas, while French network Canal+ and Canadian broadcaster Bell Media were both pre-sold local rights to air Sinbadno word (yet) on if/when it'll reach North American shores.

About the series:

On the run from his home town of Basra and under a curse for a killing that led to the death of his much-loved brother, the streetwise Sinbad finds himself cast out to sea. Surviving a violent and magical storm, both Sinbad and his intriguing fellow ship-mates are forced to band together to face their inner demons, hopes, loves and fears. Our flawed hero embarks on an epic and emotional quest to rid himself of the curse and embrace his destiny. When mystical meets muscle anything can happen.

Elliot Knight stars as the legendary Sinbad, while Lost star Naveen Andrews will play Sinbad's nemesis Lord Akbari; Okonedo plays Razia, Queen of the Water-Thieves; Walters is Abdul-Fahim; Harris stars is Zalelew; and Daniels (in the photo above with Knight) portrays a character called Nala.

It is airing in Canada right now. It is an error because a Canadian broadcaster would never pay for anything the werent planning to air as soon as they can. They just don't have the budget to have shows sit on the shelf. It airs Sundays on Space, the Canadian equivalent of SyFy.

He said Canada had bought the rights; they still haven't said when it'll air, smart-ass.

Nice. Love her. CGI-dragon and water-mongoose aside, this looks pretty good.
