Here's one black British actor who's apparently keeping busy, despite recent articles that suggest otherwise for the lot... and she's working on almost every continent now it seems :)

I only recently posted an entry alerting you to her casting in an upcoming epic UK TV mini-series based on Sinbad lore; this morning, I learned that Sophie Okonedo is also in the cast of a new upcoming "high-profile" Australian TV series titled The Slap. in which she'll co-star alongside other acclaimed thespians in Melissa George, Essie David, Alex Dimitriades, Anthony Hayes and others.

And we all just might get to see it, as international distributor DCD Rights has acquired global distribution rights to the Australian 8-part drama which will premiere later this year on ABC Australia.

So, what's The Slap about? It's based on the award-winning novel by Christos Tsiolkas and " traces the shattering repercussions of a single event on a group of family and friends. At an Australian backyard barbecue, a man slaps a child who is not his son. The boy's parents are so affronted by the assault that they call the police and legal action results. The Slap explores what happens when the veil of civility that binds us as a society, is rent aside by one disturbing action. It brings to vivid life questions of parenting, the rights of children, race, class, sexuality and the different perspectives of men and women..

AFI Award-winning directors helming episodes of the 8-parter include Jessica Hobbs, Matthew Saville, Tony Ayres and Robert Connolly

What role does Sophie Okonedo's play? All I know is that her character's name is "Aisha."

No trailer/preview of this yet, but I'll post more when I have more.

It is going to be amazing. As good as television will get. A game changer.

I'm guessing the child was white and the man who slapped him was black. Sounds like something my dad would've done lol.

I've enjoyed a couple of Australian (tv) productions, so I'm really excited about this series. Hope I can find it over here.
