IN CONVERSATION

VIOLA DAVIS TALKS WITH DAVID DENBY

Profiles in courage

Viola Davis has appeared in such films as “Traffic,” “Antwone Fisher,” “Eat, Pray, Love,” “Won’t Back Down,” and “Doubt,” for which she received an Academy Award nomination. This year, she received her second Oscar nomination and won a Screen Actors Guild Award for “The Help.” She made her Broadway début in “Seven Guitars” and has won two Tony Awards, for “King Hedley II” and “Fences.”

David Denby is a film critic at The New Yorker and the author of “Great Books,” “American Sucker,” and “Snark.” His new book, “Do the Movies Have a Future?,” comes out in October.

Saturday, October 6

7 P.M. MasterCard Stage at SVA Theatre 2

333 West 23rd Street ($35)

Duration: 90 minutes

I've never had the opportunity to see Viola Davis in person, and definitely haven't interviewed her (that day will come soon enough, I'm sure). So, I'd be willing to drop the $35 to spend 90 minutes with her (unless I get a press freebie). Hopefully, Denby will open the floor to questions.
