Spike Lee was honored last night at the 70th Annual Peabody Awards at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City.

The recognition was for his work on his follow-up Hurricane Katriana-centered documentary, If God Is Willing And Da Creek Don't Rise, which revisits the "scene of the crime" 5 years after the catastrophe occurred, taking into account the city’s successes and failures in his filmed collage.

For the uninitiated... The Peabodys, the oldest awards is the oldest and one of the most prestigious and selective in the field of broadcasting, gives out annual awards for excellence in radio and television broadcasting, honoring distinction and achievement within the fields of broadcast journalism, documentary film making, educational and children's programming, and entertainment. The entire list of the 70th Peabody Awards recipients can be found HERE.

Glad he's not just sitting on the sidelines waiting for the "suits" to get back to him...Passing Strange was dope.

Well deserved, it was a very good movie, anyone that says Spike hasn't made a good film in years obviously hasn't seen this or "Passing Strange", these are some of his best films since "25th Hour".
