Art Of Rap
Sundance Film Festival

Ice-T's documentary (and directorial debut), profiled previously on S&A, fully titled Something From Nothing: The Art Of Rap, will make its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, which got underway officially this evening.

In the film, Ice-T engages several of rap’s most influential artists in conversation about the craft of rapping – among them Chuck D, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Eminem, MC Lyte, Mos Def, and Kanye West - with the goal being to explore the roots and history of rap, and reveal the creative process behind the global art form.

In the video below, Ice talks to Billboard magazine about his directorial debut, as well as and why it offers a "never-before-seen perspective" on the music.

"I was looking at the terrain of hip-hop and where it's going… A lot of the kids don't even know where it started, and I said, 'I wanna go and document the craft -- not the money, not the cars, not the girls, the craft,'" he says.
