Picking up where I left off last night with higlights from the SXSW 2012 lineup which was unveiled yesterday...
This one is called Gimme The Loot, and it's written and directed by New York-based Adam Leon whose short film, Killer, premiered at the New Directors/New Films festival, and went on to worldwide film festival acclaim.
Gimme The Loot is hisfeature film debut.
Malcolm and Sofia, two determined teens from the Bronx, are the ultimate graffiti-writers. When a rival gang buffs their latest masterpiece, they must hatch a plan to get revenge by tagging an iconic NYC landmark, but they need to raise $500 to pull off their spectacular scheme. Over the course of two whirlwind, sun-soaked summer days, Malcolm and Sofia travel on an epic urban adventure involving black market spray cans, illicit bodegas, stolen sneakers, a high wire heist, and a beautiful, rich girl’s necklace that is literally their key to becoming the biggest writers in the City.
I haven't seen any of Mr Leon's work, but looking at the trailer for his short film Killer below, we could probably guess that where his interests lie - street graffiti, reckless adolescence, urban landscapes...
But Gimme The Loot is on my short list of films to see at SXSW next month. Not much media on it at the moment except the image you see above.
