SyFy Premieres "Age Of The Dragons" TONIGHT (Danny Glover As Capt. Ahab) + New Trailer

Call me crazy but I'm mildly curious about this flick, which I've written about in previous posts.

As reported last month, the Syfy Channel finally set a premiere date for Age Of The Dragons, essentially a re-imagining of Herman Melville's classic novel Moby Dick, starring, in an unexpected, if inspired casting choice, Danny Glover as the tyrannical Ahab. Vinnie Jones and Sean Astin also co-star.

And that day has come - tonight, July 30th, at 9/8c.

Syfy acquired stateside rights to the film in April, which has already been released on DVD in the UK, though it hasn't been screened in the USA. This will be its stateside premiere.

The full synopsis for this action/fantasy/sci-fi/thriller, reads: "Set in a mythical realm where Captain Ahab and crew hunt dragons for the vitriol that powers their world, Ishmael, a charismatic harpooner joins their quest. Ahab's adopted daughter Rachel, beautiful and tough, runs the hunting vessel. Ahab's obsession is to seek revenge on a great "White Dragon" that slaughtered his family when he was young and left his body scarred and mauled, drives the crew deeper into the heart of darkness. In the White Dragon's lair Ahab's secrets are revealed and Rachel must choose between following him on his dark quest or escaping to a new life with Ishmael."

Those of you in the UK, anyone see it yet? If so, thoughts? Like I said, I'm curious. I also don't have cable TV, so I won't be tuning in tonight.

A newer trailer than those I've shared previously, recut for/by Syfy, and which centers heavily on Glover's character, follows below:

Book is so old it's public domain. I watched a few minutes off and on. Felt bad for Danny. From what I saw, he wasn't even a main character.

I am watching it right now. It's not as badly acted as other Syfy Saturday night movies but still not good. (I enjoy their series such as Eureka and Warehouse 13 though.) Sean Astin is not in it, mostly unknown actors. The dragon looks more like a giant one of those rubber chickens (Well, actually I don't know how a real dragon looked like or even they existed anyway.)
What I don't understand is how they can turn Moby Dick into this dragon story. Do they have permission? Is it allowed?

    I watched some of this.

Thanks JMac, yeah, it's 30th, not 20th. Typo...

You mean July 30th, right? I can't stand SyFy's movies the quality is so bad: story, dialogue, effects, most of the acting. My friend and I used to watch just to laugh at the crappiness. I hope they do Danny right but I can already tell it'll be the same old mess - maybe one step better.

Sean Astin isn't in this, according to both its page and his page on IMDb.
