Destined

His feature film directorial debut (Mooz-Lum) now on home video, after screening all over the world and a successful stateside theatrical run, Qasim Basir has officially begun prepping his next film - a drama titled simply Destined.

Little is still publicly available about the project at the moment; previously posted was the tagline you see on the cropped poster art above (full poster below), which reads "One man. Two stories. One choice that changes everything."

Now we have more; a full synopsis, which Qasim revealed earlier today via the project's Facebook page; and it reads as follows:

In one world Rasheed Smith is a hardened criminal who has spent years building his drug empire. In another, he is an ambitious architect who has been working his way up the corporate ladder. Uniquely illustrated through parallel lives, Destined explores how one man's future can be changed by a single moment. Facing everything from street violence to corporate corruption, Rasheed navigates his role in each world while demonstrating that on any path, life is never simple in the journey toward fulfilling your destiny.

I'm in! I'm digging the parrallel worlds/lives angle. Looking forward to seeing how this is developed and shaped.

Of course, a lot still has to happen for this to become a reality; but given how well he used the tools available to him to get Mooz-Lum produced and distributed (109,000+ Facebook fans and counting), I'll look for a Destined to enjoy a similar fate.

Qasim is brushing up the script currently, and we'll be following the project's path in 2012.

A Facebook page has been created for it, which you can "like" HERE; and there's a Twitter account for it as well, which you can follow HERE.

You'll know more when we know more, so stay tuned.

Glad to see filmmakers from the 2011 Shadow And Act Black Filmmakers To Watch list like Qasim and Ava DuVernay, moving right along into their sophomore efforts, after successful debuts.
