Today in history, June 3rd, 1906... dancer, singer and actress Freda Josephine McDonald (aka Josephine Baker), who gained fame in Paris, France, thanks to her "risque" cabaret and musical hall performances, was born in St. Louis, Missouri.

Actor Louis Gossett Jr. welcomes 75 today. The Brooklyn native attended NYU on a basketball scholarship but opted to continue his acting career and appeared in the Broadway production of A Raisin In The Sun. His other Broadway credits include Chicago and Golden Boy. Probably best known for his role in Office And A Gentleman, which garnered him an Academy Award for "Best Supporting Actor," the groundbreaking television series Roots secured him an Emmy Award. His long list of film and tv credits include Daktari, The Bill Cosby Show, The Young Rebels, Bonanza, Mob Squad, The Rockford Files, Daddy's Little Girl, Lackawanna Blues, The Josephine Baker Story and much more.

New York native Leslie Uggams welcomes 68 today. The stage and film actress has appeared in I Spy, Mod Squad, Black Girl, Roots, The Love Boat, Magnum P.I., All My Children, The Cosby Show and more. She's best known for her role in Hallelujah, Baby!, a 1967 Broadway musical that won the Tony Award for best musical.

Janet Jackson welcomes 45 today. As a child actress, she's appeared on Good Times, Different Strokes and The Love Boat. She went on later to appear in Fame, Poetic Justice, Nutty Professor 2, Why Did I Get Married?, Why Did I Get Married Too? and For Colored Girls. She recently signed a deal with Lionsgate allowing her to direct and produce her first feature film.

Canadian actress Lorena Gale would have turned 53 today. Her long list of film and tv appearances include The Butterfly Effect, Smallville, Traitor, God Bless The Child, 21 Jump Street, Camp Candy, The Commish, The X-Files, P.T. Her list of film and tv credits include For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuf, Hill Street Blues, Cagney & Lacey, The Fall Guy, The Women Of Brewster Place, A Thin Line Between Love and Hate, Eve's Bayou, Boston Public, Madea's Family Reunion, Head of State and The Cheetah Girls. Her next appearance will be in the upcoming 50 Cent film Things Fall Apart.

As Tambay stated earlier...the King of Soul James Brown would have turned 78 today. Although singing was his forte, he did appear in The Blues Brothers, Doctor Detroit, Miami Vice and Rocky IV. You can hear his music on various soundtracks including Black Caesar, Eye of the Tiger, Good Morning Vietnam, How To Be A Player, Doctor Dolittle, Everybody Hates Chris, Spider Man 3 and more.
