To many, he’s known primarily as George Pelecanos, writer/producer of HBO’s The Wire. But before he teamed up with The Wire producer David Simon to give us the gritty depictions of Baltimore life that we’ve all come to know and love, Pelecanos was already an acclaimed novelist in his own right, crafting intricate thrillers set in our nation’s capital. Now, one of his earlier novels, Shoedog, is set to be adapted to the big screen.

The last we heard of Canadian director Clement Virgo was back in April when we alerted you that he was working on, along with pop singer Sting's wife Trudie Styler, a remake of 1972 Jamaican crime drama classic, The Harder They Come. Now comes word he's also developing a film adaptation for author Lawrence Hill’s bestseller, The Book of Negroes.

The book, titled Alleen Maar Nette Mensen (or Only Decent People) doesn't appear to have been translated to English yet, as I couldn't find an English-language version of it. But if anyone does, feel free to let the rest of us know.
