Indomina Entertainment is reportedly close to a deal to acquire Sheldon Candis' Sundance Film Festival 2012 drama LUV (starring Common) - the one film that was on my short list of films to see at the festival that I wasn't able to (hence no review of it from me).

Producer and DV Republic founder Warrington Hudlin and film historian Ed Guerrero have joined the group of noted voices from film and entertainment slated to moderate in-depth filmmaker Q&A's at this year's New Voices in Black Cinema Festival. The Festival takes place at BAM Rose Cinemas and other locations in Brooklyn, NY, February 16 - 20.

One of the highlights of the upcoming New Voices In Black Cinema Festival which begins its 2nd annual run in Brooklyn, NYC next week Friday at BAM Cinemas, February 17th through the 20th, is University of California-Davis film professor, Christine Acham's documentary on the making of the Ivan Dixon-directed political firebrand of a film, The Spook Who Sat by the Door, adapted from Sam Greenlee's novel.

I won't arrive in Los Angeles for the festival until the 16th of this month, but thankfully the "genius bastard" himself, Mr Brandon Wilson (find him on Twitter HERE) who lives in Los Angeles, and who has covered events for S&A in LA in the past (you should have read all excellent his reviews of films at the UCLA LA Rebellion retrospective last fall) will be representing Shadow And Act in a panel discussion titled Diverisity In Film Criticism at the Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles exactly one week from today, February 13th, from 5:30pm to 7pm.

The Pan African Film Festival begins this week in Los Angeles with an eclectic lineup of films from across the Diaspora scheduled to screen this year, its 20th anniversary by the way; and I'm looking forward to finally seeing a number of films we've covered here on S&A that'll be making their world premieres at the festival, like Russ Parr's The Under Shepherd, Philippe Niang's Toussaint L'Ouverture, and Neema Barnette's On The Seventh Day; as well as films that have screened previously elsewhere but that I'll be seeing for the very first time like Alfons Adetuyi's High Chicago, Bill Duke's Dark Girls, and several other titles.

I first profiled this dude about a year ago; buzz about a film he's starring in picked up recently, since it was announced that it will finally make its world debut at the Berlin Film Festival this month, after 5 or more years in production (this is what happens when you're making sci-fi parody without any real steady financial backing.
